A bit about South Cambridgeshire Green Party

South Cambridgeshire Green Party is a group of just over 200 members, who live in the area covered by South Cambridgeshire District Council and fight elections at district, county, and national level (South Cambridgeshire constituency; although some of S Cambridgeshire District is within the SE Cambridgeshire constituency).  Our co-ordinator and 2015 General Election candidate is Simon Saggers.

We cover a wide geographical area and our membership is scattered throughout.  This makes it difficult for people to get to meetings, so we try to hold them at different locations so that we are near some members at each one.

In the District Council elections, May 2014, we did well.  Our target district council seat was in Bassingbourn, where Simon came second with 35% of the vote.  We also came second in two others of the five seats where we stood, in one case beating Labour, LibDem and UKIP candidates.  In the Euro elections, (where we were unlucky in the Eastern Region not to have our Green lead candidate, Rupert Read, elected) South Cambridgeshire polled 11.6% Green votes, so if we'd had our way we would have elected a Green MEP!
