Elections in 2017

28 September 2017

Mayoral candidate Julie Howell on the campaign trail2017 has proved an extremely busy year for local party activists. Not only did we have the County Council elections in May, but also the election for the new post of Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough on the same day. While we were still in the thick of these campaigns, the snap General Election was announced for 8 June!

Although, sadly, we didn't make any breakthroughs in these elections, we have a lot to be proud of.  We stood a full slate of candidates in the county elections, an impressive achievement. South Cambs Greens took an active role in Julie Howell's very well-received campaign for the Mayoral role. We ran a solid campaign for the General Election despite the extremely short notice and tight resources, but unfortunately weren't able to retain Simon Saggers' deposit - as always the Green vote is at the mercy of national trends.

So we'd like to say an enormous a thank you to all those who delivered leaflets, donated money via our crowd funder appeal, visited the stall at Strawberry Fair, came to a husting, put a sign in the window or supported our campaigns in any way.
